| | | It will become possible to measure the ratings of radio, TV, written press, cinemas and the exposure to outdoor advertising by means of a wrist watch. | | -September 04, 2003- | The group GfK AG, through its affiliated company TELECONTROL AG, has designed a new technology for measuring media ratings by means of a wrist watch. This device will become available on the market within 6-8 months. The system was presented by Prof. Matthias Steinmann in Zürich, on September 2 - Swiss Radio Day.
The device is based on ratings measuring technology of highest performance produced during the last three years. The measuring device is incorporated in a wrist watch and identifies at very short time intervals the radio stations that the bearer listens to and TV channels that they watch.
Five years from the launch of the first electronic ratings measuring device, prof. Matthias Steinmann, head of the Research Department of Swiss Broadcasting Corporation and president of TELECONTROL AG, announced on September 2 to over 400 specialists the forthcoming launch of the new audiometer, currently in the final testing phase. The new model incorporates all functions of the electronic measuring system - RADIOCONTROL to which it adds some additional facilities:
- Ratings measuring for newspapers and magazines by collecting data in real time - Measuring cinema ratings by means of special radio frequencies detection systems - Measuring of exposure to outdoor advertising by means of special radio frequencies detection systems
Following to the research on classical ratings measuring systems, carried out by TELECONTROL in several countries, the company's experts succeeded in implementing significant technical upgrading:
- The measuring time for radio has been improved - 3 measures per minute, instead of one - Automatic detection of the place where the participant listens to the radio (home, office, car) - If the radio is listened to in headphones, the system includes a device that can be mounted on the headphones' wire and that transmits the signal to the audiometer, through radio waves - The data recording has an improved automatic system, which allows the detection of several stations on every device.
Moreover, the TELECONTROL AG engineers have achieved another performance by significantly reducing the production costs, which makes the new product cheaper and offering more numerous facilities than the old electronic monitoring system.
The TELECONTROL AG specialists are convinced that the new technology, manufactured under the name "Steinmann Mediacontrol", will revolutionize the media ratings measuring systems both through its competitive prices and through functionality.
